VW up! parts in South Africa
The up! was only ever a niche seller in South Africa, offered mainly as the move up! with the naturally aspirated three-cylinder 1.0 MPI engine in CHYA and CHYB tunes. That low volume is the whole story when it comes to spares: there is no deep local pool, so an up! enquiry is genuinely a search rather than a stock check. It helps that the car shares its Type 121 platform and much of its hardware with the Seat Mii and Skoda Citigo, both of which show up in breakers’ yards and cross-reference well for engines, five-speed manual and ASG automated gearboxes, radiators, alternators, starters and front suspension. The parts people ask for most are the ones a small city car loses in traffic: front bumpers, headlight units, door mirrors and the large one-piece rear glass tailgate, which is expensive new and easily damaged. Send us the model year and whether yours is a three- or five-door — body panels differ and stock is limited enough that precision saves weeks.

Gearboxes

Radiators
Engine radiators for petrol and diesel VWs, with and without the aircon condenser attached. Stone damage to the core and split plastic end tanks are the two failures we see most, and we pressure-check every radiator before it goes out.
Alternators
Alternators from 90A to 180A output, including the regulated units on start-stop models. A battery light with a low charging voltage is normally the regulator rather than the whole alternator, but a tested used unit gets the car back on the road same day.
Starters
Starter motors for petrol and diesel VWs, including the heavier units diesels need and the reinforced starters fitted to start-stop cars. A single loud click with a healthy battery is nearly always the solenoid, which comes as part of the assembly.
Bumpers

Headlights
Halogen and LED headlight units, left and right. We check the lens for hazing and the mounting tabs for cracks before quoting, because a lamp with broken lugs will never sit flush no matter how good the glass looks in the photo.
