Used VW Transmission for Sale

Manual boxes, DSG units, clutches, driveshafts and everything that gets power to the wheels. VW gearbox codes matter more than model names here — a 02J out of a Golf 4 will not talk to a Polo 6R, so send us the letters off the casing.

Transmission we carry

Gearboxes

Category browse view for VW manual gearboxes — the full buying page is at /gearboxes-for-sale/. 02J, 02T, 0A4 and MQ200 boxes off Golf, Polo, Jetta and Caddy. A good used box selects cleanly into every gear cold and shows no play in the input shaft.

DSG Gearboxes

Category browse view for DSG units — detailed pricing sits at /dsg-gearboxes-for-sale/. Dry-clutch DQ200 seven-speeds and wet-clutch DQ250 six-speeds out of Golf, Jetta, Polo GTI and Tiguan. Always match the gearbox letter code, not just the model year.

DSG Mechatronics

Mechatronic control units for DQ200 and DQ250 boxes — the valve body, solenoids and control module in one assembly. Most DSG faults in South Africa turn out to be mechatronic, not the gearbox itself, so a used unit is often the whole repair.

Clutch Kits

Clutch plates, pressure plates and release bearings pulled from low-kilometre VWs. Second-hand clutch parts only make sense when the friction material still has real thickness left, so we measure the plate and photograph the pressure plate fingers before quoting.

DMF

Dual mass flywheels off TDI and TSI models, where rattle on start-up and shutdown is the classic symptom of a tired unit. Free play should be limited and even — a used DMF that rocks freely by hand has nothing left in the springs.

Driveshafts

Left and right driveshafts complete with inner and outer joints, plus rear shafts off 4Motion models. Side matters and so does length, so we work off the VIN — a Polo shaft and a Polo Vivo shaft look identical until you try to bolt one in.

CV Joints

Inner and outer constant velocity joints with boots and clips. The clicking on full lock that so many older Golfs and Polos develop is an outer joint that ran dry after the boot split — buy the joint and the boot together and do the job once.

Gear Selectors

Gear linkages, selector cables and shift mechanisms for manual VWs. Stretched cables and worn bushes are why a Golf 5 suddenly refuses to find reverse, and a complete used linkage assembly is usually cheaper than the individual bushes from a dealer.

Differentials

Category browse view for VW diffs — full detail and pricing at /differentials-for-sale/. Front diffs built into the gearbox plus rear diffs and Haldex units off 4Motion Tiguan, Touareg and Amarok. Ratio codes must match front to rear on all-wheel-drive models.

Torque Converters

Torque converters for VW automatic boxes, including the 09G Aisin units in Polo, Jetta and Tiguan. Judder at light throttle usually means the lock-up clutch is shedding material into the fluid, so a sound used converter is a standard part of an auto rebuild.

Gearbox Mounts

Gearbox and transmission mounts with their brackets. A perished mount lets the box drop under load, which throws the linkage out and makes gear changes notchy — the fix people chase for months when the actual gearbox was never the problem.
