Used VW Suspension for Sale
Shocks, struts, arms, joints, bearings and steering components. South African road surfaces are hard on VW front suspension, so this is one of the busiest sections in the yard — most enquiries here start with a knock over speed bumps.
Suspension we carry
Shock Absorbers
Front and rear shocks and dampers, including the sports settings fitted to GTI and R-Line models. We sell them in pairs because replacing one side only leaves the car unbalanced, and every used shock is checked for oil weeping down the body.
Struts
Complete front strut assemblies with spring, top mount and bearing already fitted. Buying the whole strut saves paying a workshop to compress springs, and it is the quickest fix when a coil has snapped and taken the tyre sidewall with it.
Control Arms
Front lower control arms with bushes and, where they came out that way, the ball joint still pressed in. On Golf 5 onwards the rear bush is hydraulic and splits with age, giving vague steering and uneven inner tyre wear long before anything knocks.
Wishbones
Wishbone assemblies including the upper links used on Touareg and Amarok front ends. Left and right are handed and the bush centres differ between generations, so we work off the VIN rather than the model name when matching a wishbone.
Tie Rod Ends
Outer tie rod ends and inner rack ends. A knock over corrugations and steering that will not hold alignment for more than a month are the two symptoms that send people looking, and the joint should have no vertical play at all when levered.
Ball Joints
Lower ball joints, both the bolt-in type and the ones pressed into the control arm. Torn boots let water in and the joint is finished within months on wet coastal roads, so check the rubber before anything else on a used one.
Wheel Bearings
Front and rear wheel bearings and complete bearing hubs with the ABS ring built in. A drone that changes pitch when you swerve is the giveaway, and on later models the sensor ring is part of the bearing, so the ABS light follows the noise.
Hubs
Front and rear hub carriers, stub axles and steering knuckles. These come off accident-damaged cars rather than worn ones, so condition is usually excellent — just confirm the stud count and PCD, because 5x100 and 5x112 VWs are not interchangeable.
Subframes
Front and rear subframes and crossmembers, often the only economical fix after a kerb strike or a bad pothole bends one. Straightness is everything here, so we check mounting points against a known-good frame before a subframe is offered for sale.
Coil Springs
Front and rear coil springs in standard, heavy-duty and lowered ratings. Springs snap near the bottom coil on rough roads and the car sits visibly lower on that corner — always replace in pairs so the ride height stays level side to side.
Anti-Roll Bars
Anti-roll bars with their drop links, bushes and clamps. The links are what rattle over uneven tar and they are the cheapest part in this section, but a bent bar off a kerbed car needs replacing properly, so we sell both separately and together.
Steering Racks
Hydraulic and electric power steering racks. Later Golf, Polo and Tiguan models use an electro-mechanical rack with the motor built on, and those need coding to the car, so we supply the part number off the old unit with every quote.
Power Steering Pumps
Belt-driven and electro-hydraulic power steering pumps for older VW models. A whine that rises with revs and heavy steering at parking speeds are the usual complaints, and the electro-hydraulic units on Golf 5 also carry their own control module.
