Used VW Electrical for Sale

Alternators, starters, modules, sensors, switches and looms. Modern VWs run everything through coded control units, so we record the part number and software version off each unit we strip and quote you against yours, not against a model year.

Electrical we carry

Alternators

Alternators from 90A to 180A output, including the regulated units on start-stop models. A battery light with a low charging voltage is normally the regulator rather than the whole alternator, but a tested used unit gets the car back on the road same day.

Starters

Starter motors for petrol and diesel VWs, including the heavier units diesels need and the reinforced starters fitted to start-stop cars. A single loud click with a healthy battery is nearly always the solenoid, which comes as part of the assembly.

ECUs

Engine control units from Bosch ME, MED and EDC families. Nearly all VW ECUs are immobiliser-locked to the original car, so we supply the matching cluster and key where we have them, or you will need a specialist to virginise the unit.

BCM

Comfort and body control modules that run central locking, lights, wipers and windows. Water leaking into the footwell kills these on older Golfs, and the symptom set is wonderfully random — indicators, mirrors and the boot release failing all at once.

Wiring Looms

Engine bay, door, tailgate and dashboard harnesses. Door looms fatigue and break where they flex through the hinge, and rodent damage in the engine bay is common on cars that stand — we cut looms out complete with plugs so you keep every connector.

Ignition Coils

Coil packs and pencil coils for VW petrol engines, plus the plug leads older models still use. A misfire under load on one cylinder that follows the coil when you swap it around is the classic test, and coils are usually sold as a set of four.

Window Switches

Driver and passenger window switch packs, including the mirror adjuster built into the driver unit. Worn contacts make a window work in one direction only, and the surrounding trim panel usually comes off with the switch, which saves you a second part.

Window Regulators

Window regulators and motors, front and rear, left and right. The plastic clips that hold the glass to the cable are a known weak point across the Golf and Polo range — the window drops into the door and the motor keeps running merrily.

Central Locking Motors

Central locking motors and pumps, including the vacuum pump systems on older Passat and Jetta models. One door refusing to lock with the rest is the usual complaint, and on later cars the motor is integrated into the lock, so check which you need.

Door Lock Actuators

Complete door lock mechanisms with the actuator, microswitch and cable attached. When the alarm triggers by itself at 2am it is nearly always a failed door microswitch telling the car a door is open, and the whole lock is the reliable fix.

Instrument Clusters

Speedometer clusters and dash pods for petrol and diesel VWs. The cluster stores the immobiliser data and the odometer reading, so it must be coded to your car by an auto electrician — we supply the original part number and mileage with every unit.

Immobilisers

Immobiliser boxes, transponder coils around the ignition barrel and matched key sets. A car that cranks but will not fire with the key light flashing in the cluster is an immobiliser fault, and matched sets are far easier to code than mixed parts.

Crank Sensors

Crankshaft position sensors and their brackets. This is the part behind the classic VW no-start that only happens once the engine is hot, then clears when it cools down — a cheap sensor that has stranded a lot of Golf and Polo owners.

Cam Sensors

Camshaft position sensors, usually mounted in the rocker cover or timing end of the head. A failed cam sensor gives long cranking before start-up and a stored timing correlation code, which people often mistake for a stretched timing chain.

MAF Sensors

Mass air flow sensors and the housings they sit in. On TDI models a drifting MAF causes flat power and black smoke long before it sets a fault code, and cheap aftermarket copies are notorious, so a genuine used Bosch unit is the safer buy.

Throttle Bodies

Electronic throttle bodies and diesel throttle flap housings. Carbon build-up around the butterfly causes a high or hunting idle and the EPC light, and a used body still needs basic settings adapted with a scan tool after fitting.
